The Salvation Army acknowledges that initial ministry training, whether provided at the Officer Training College or elsewhere, is but one stage, in a lifelong journey of equipping and developing officers for mission and ministry. Continuing education and development is expected and is actively encouraged through the provision of financial support.
Officers are encouraged to participate in personal study programs that are relevant to their current and future work.
Officers should also consider their vocational leanings, and plan to develop themselves in areas of passion and personal calling while remaining open to the feedback of their peers and leaders in relation to their sense of calling to specific areas of ministry.
The Leader Development Department is a resource department to assist in this process and can help with identifying suitable courses and providing guidance regarding many facets of engaging in the higher education and vocational development sectors
