Celebrating Yuletide Spirit
22 November 2017
The 24th Spirit of Christmas album – which is also the 23rd album that directly supports The Salvation Army’s work – has been launched by Myer.
The Spirit of Christmas CD is a Myer tradition that has become synonymous with Christmas and The Salvation Army.
This year’s CD is a selection of some of the favourite songs over the past 24 years in ‘The Best of Best 2nd edition’ , described by territorial associate fundraising director John Williamson as ‘a kind of greatest hits volume II’ of Australian popular Christmas music. It features 15 icons of popular music, including Paul Kelly (Christmas Must Be Tonight), Tina Arena (White Christmas), Jon Stevens (Christmas/Baby Please Come Home), Marina Prior (The Coventry Carol), Christine Anu (Mary’s Boy Child), The Wiggles (Go Santa Go), Guy Sebastian (All I Want For Christmas Is You), Jessica Mauboy (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas) Anthony Warlow (The Christmas Song) and The Veronicas (Grown Up Christmas List).
‘You can put a dollar figure on the benefits of this album, but it doesn’t tell the whole story,’ John told e-connect. ‘This kind of assistance makes real differences in people’s lives. If a woman is sleeping in her car with her kids, for example, then this kind of financial support, and that of programs like Myer’s Give Register, can be the difference between finding a safe place and returning to an unsafe situation.’
The Spirit of Christmas 2017 retails for $19.95 and is available from Myer. All net profits from the proceeds of the sale of the CD will support The Salvation Army’s Family and Domestic Violence services.
