Social justice in action
Jenny Stanger from the Australia Eastern Territory (AET) will be conducting an all-day anti-human trafficking training event at The Salvation Army’s Melbourne headquarters on 25 June. The training covers: Modern slavery – a conceptual overview and international legal framework; Australia's legal and policy response; How to identify people in slavery-like conditions; How to respond to people in slavery-like conditions; How to support the needs of people subjected to slavery-like conditions; and Inter-agency collaboration. This training is also scheduled to occur in Adelaide.
The Salvation Army encourages corps and social centres and services to observe the annual national Sorry Day on Monday, 26 May, as part of the ongoing reconciliation process with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. This precedes Reconciliation Week and Mabo Day (2 June).
