40 Days with Jesus

40 Days with Jesus coverThe "40 Days with Jesus" plan builds up a broadly biblical picture of Christ starting with the Old Testament anticipation of Christ. Jesus’ ministry is traced through its beginnings, his heralding of the Kingdom of God, his demands of disciples, his teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, his inclusion of outsiders, culminating in his death and resurrection.

40 Days on the Kingdom

40 Days on the Kingdom coverJesus’ central teaching was that the kingdom of God was near. But what exactly did he mean by that? 40 Days on the Kingdom is a Bible Reading Plan designed to help you understand what Christians mean when we speak about “the Kingdom of God”. It builds up a broadly biblical picture of the kingdom of God, starting with how the people of Israel understood the kingdom of God, how the exile increased their expectation of a messiah who would inaugurate God’s rule on earth through the state of Israel. Then we look at Jesus’ teachings and how his miracles pointed to the kingdom. Finally we look at the tension of God’s kingdom being “here” but also “still coming”.

40 Days on Covenant

40 Days on Covenant cover One of the key threads that run through the bible are the various covenants that God made with various people, including Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, David, and the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. The bible shows God both making and keeping covenant with people that he chose. This bible reading plan focuses on the Abrahamic, Mosaic, Davidic and the New Covenants and shows how the earlier covenants are all fulfilled in Jesus Christ, and in the New Covenant.

40 Days on Justice

40 Days on JusticeWe tend to think about Christian holiness in terms of things that I do that make me a good or bad person. Righteousness tends to be defined as an issue of personal morality. However in a biblical context, God’s expectations of holiness go far beyond an individual’s personal morality and good standing with God.  Holiness is also about the “loving our neighbour” issues of justice. This bible reading plan traces these key themes in relation to justice throughout the bible, concentrating on how the ideas of justice, righteousness and God’s response are shown in Genesis; followed by stories of how God liberates his people from injustice. We then look at the question of how God expects his people to live, and what life in Jesus’ kingdom means for justice.

40 Days on Grace

40 Days on Grace coverGod is an amazing God. He eclipses our human understanding. We usually do not have any trouble believing that God is angry about sin. Which is definitely true. But we need to hold that truth in tension with other truths about God. One of those other great truths is that God is also a God of mercy and grace. God’s mercy means that He does not give us what our sins deserve; His grace means that He gives us blessings that we do not deserve. Mercy brings our spiritual ‘bank balance’ back to zero, Grace makes us spiritual millionaires. Let’s spend forty days together, learning to understand better what it means to live life under the Grace of God. The journey will take us through the Old and New Testaments to build up a biblical picture of the doctrine of grace.
