Refugee Week 2017

We are at a point in history where there are more people seeking refuge and asylum seekers than ever before. In fact, according to the UNHRC one in every 113 people worldwide are either an asylum-seeker, internally displaced or a refugee. The Salvation Army is concerned for the millions of people who have sought asylum and refuge.

The Salvation Army Positional Statement on Refugees and Asylum Seekers states, “The Salvation Army believes human life is created in the image of God and is a gift to be cherished, nurtured and redeemed. The sanctity of human life means we treat all people with dignity. Dignity is neither conferred nor withheld by citizenship, human choice or plight; it is inherent in every person”.

The theme for this year’s Refugee Week is ‘With courage let us all combine’. Refugee Week runs from 18th – 24th June. Join with hundreds of Salvationists across Australia as we recognise the incredible strength it takes to flee home and seek safety.
